History:

Church was born and raised pulling sleds. He was a very reliable dog with a bright career until he suffered an injury to a hind leg from another member of his team. No longer able to safely run long distances, he was doomed to be put down. A client took pity on him however, and took Church home despite warnings that sled dogs often did not transfer well into house pets.

The young man worked hard to rehabilitate Church, but simply did not have the experience nor the time, and he was soon passed on to a more experienced dog owner, who decided to rehabilitate Church as much as possible before passing him on to a shelter so he would have a better chance at being rehomed. Church flourished under this owner, and was transitioned into a tamer dog that could live in a household with a stern owner.

Church now waits for his forever home. But be warned – without patience and leadership, this dog will walk all over you.

Extra information:

+ As a former sled dog, Church is only obedient for and will only respect a human who is able to establish themselves as ‘alpha’. He is not recommended for first time owners, but once an owner establishes hierarchy, he is a very dependable and loving dog. He WILL take advantage of an owner who is not stern.

+ He wears his old human gear he wore when he was still a sled dog, despite it being quite warm…

+ Church’s leg injury is hard to notice under normal circumstances. If running for long periods of time, he’ll begin to develop a limp.
